Do You Care for Cats With Health Conditions?

Do You Care for Cats With Health Conditions?

Yes.

Cats in the City regularly cares for cats living with a wide range of medical conditions and special healthcare needs. Many of our boarding guests require ongoing medications, specialized diets, mobility support, monitoring, or other accommodations as part of their daily routine.

Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment while maintaining the care plan established by your veterinarian.

Common Conditions We Support

Our team routinely cares for cats with conditions such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Kidney disease
  • Arthritis and mobility limitations
  • Asthma
  • Heart disease
  • Gastrointestinal conditions
  • Neurologic conditions
  • Vision or hearing impairment
  • Senior and geriatric care needs

Every cat is unique, and we develop individualized care plans based on their medical history, medications, daily routine, and overall health status.

Medication Administration

Our team is trained to administer many common feline medications, including:

  • Oral medications
  • Topical medications
  • Transdermal medications
  • Inhalers
  • Insulin injections
  • Nutritional supplements

Medication schedules are reviewed before arrival to ensure we can safely meet your cat’s needs during their stay.

Medical Monitoring

While Cats in the City is not a veterinary hospital, our team carefully monitors boarding guests for changes in:

  • Appetite
  • Water intake
  • Energy level
  • Elimination habits
  • Mobility
  • Breathing
  • Behavior
  • General comfort and wellbeing

If concerns arise during a stay, we will contact the guardian and, when appropriate, coordinate with your veterinarian or emergency veterinary services.

Veterinary Care During Boarding

Cats in the City does not provide in-house veterinary services.

Guardians remain responsible for:

  • Veterinary examinations
  • Diagnostics
  • Prescription medications
  • Emergency veterinary care
  • Specialty care referrals

If veterinary care becomes necessary during a stay, we will work closely with the guardian and the cat’s veterinary team whenever possible.

Conditions We Cannot Accept

To protect the health and safety of all boarding guests, we are unable to accept cats with contagious illnesses.

Examples include:

  • Ringworm
  • Upper respiratory infections (URI)
  • Suspected contagious skin conditions
  • Other communicable diseases that may place other cats at risk

If your cat is currently experiencing symptoms of illness, please contact us before scheduling a reservation so we can help determine whether boarding is appropriate.

Not Sure if Your Cat Qualifies?

Many guardians are surprised by the level of medical support we can provide.

If your cat has a health condition, special medication schedule, mobility challenge, or unique care need, we encourage you to contact our team. We are happy to discuss your cat’s situation and help determine the most appropriate Care Plan for their stay.

Our goal is simple:

To provide safe, attentive, individualized care that supports your cat’s health, comfort, and quality of life while you are away.

Many cats require medications, monitoring, specialized diets, senior support, or chronic disease management while boarding. These resources explain how Cats in the City supports medically complex cats and individualized care plans.
