Do You Guarantee a Flea-Free Environment?

Do You Guarantee a Flea-Free Environment?

We work hard to maintain a flea-free environment and take parasite prevention very seriously.

While no facility can guarantee that fleas will never be introduced, we have multiple layers of prevention and response protocols designed to protect all cats in our care.

Our philosophy is simple:

Not on our watch.

Are Flea Preventatives Required?

Yes.

All cats boarding with Cats in the City must be on an approved flea prevention protocol during their stay.

Common flea prevention products include:

  • Advantage®
  • Activyl®
  • Frontline®
  • Revolution®
  • Comfortis®
  • Other veterinarian-approved flea preventatives

If your cat is not currently protected by an approved flea preventative, we will apply an appropriate treatment at check-in at the guardian’s expense.

Do You Check Cats for Fleas?

Yes.

Every cat receives a visual inspection upon arrival.

Because fleas can be introduced from a variety of environments, we carefully evaluate each boarding guest for signs of:

  • Live fleas
  • Flea dirt
  • Active infestation
  • Skin irritation associated with parasites

These inspections are part of our standard admission process.

What Happens If My Cat Arrives With Fleas?

If live fleas are identified at check-in, immediate intervention is required to protect both your cat and other boarding guests.

Depending on the situation, we may:

  • Administer a flea bath or flea dip
  • Apply a flea preventative
  • Increase monitoring
  • Implement additional environmental controls

All parasite treatment services are performed at the guardian’s expense.

Why Are Flea Policies So Strict?

A single untreated flea infestation can quickly affect multiple areas of a facility and create discomfort for numerous cats.

Our prevention protocols help protect:

  • Boarding guests
  • Grooming guests
  • Rescue cats
  • Foster cats
  • Cats receiving rehabilitation services

By requiring prevention and performing intake inspections, we significantly reduce the risk of parasite transmission.

What If I Am Not Sure What Flea Prevention My Cat Uses?

No problem.

Our team is happy to review your cat’s current flea prevention plan and determine whether additional treatment is recommended before boarding.

Our Philosophy

Cats deserve to be comfortable, healthy, and protected while in our care.

Flea prevention is not simply about convenience—it is part of responsible feline health management.

We cannot guarantee that fleas will never attempt to enter the facility.

We can promise that we take prevention seriously, respond quickly, and remain vigilant in protecting the cats entrusted to us.

Because when it comes to fleas, our policy remains the same:

Not on our watch.
